Data Policy
Effective 4 October 2026
This policy describes how Spotify data and user-created data may be used in SpotiBooks and the rules that apply when using the service.
1. Limited purpose
SpotiBooks accesses Spotify data only to provide personal audiobook organization, progress tracking, private listening statistics, and playback controls. It does not sell, rent, advertise against, profile for marketing, or train machine-learning models with Spotify data or your personal data.
2. Data minimization and access
The application requests only the Spotify permissions needed to read recent/current playback, inspect available playback devices, and resume playback. Access tokens are used server-side and are not stored long-term. Refresh tokens are encrypted. Application data is private by default and scoped to the signed-in account.
A recommendation link intentionally makes limited book metadata public: album title, artist, artwork, duration, description, and the recommender's Spotify display name or username. It does not expose listening progress, ratings, bookmarks, notes, or listening history. Anyone who receives such a link may view and forward it.
3. User control
- Remove individual books to delete their associated private book data.
- Delete individual bookmarks or dismiss imported descriptions.
- Revoke SpotiBooks through Spotify's connected-app settings.
- Delete the SpotiBooks account and associated stored data from the account menu.
4. Responsible use
You may use SpotiBooks only for lawful, personal use and in accordance with Spotify's terms. Do not misuse the service, interfere with its security, scrape or redistribute Spotify content, manipulate play counts, or use another person's account or data without permission. The service is not directed to children.
5. Spotify platform and content
Spotify AB is not responsible for SpotiBooks and does not endorse it. Spotify and its licensors retain all rights in the Spotify platform, service, trademarks, metadata, artwork, and content. You must not modify, create derivative works from, decompile, reverse engineer, or otherwise reduce the Spotify platform, service, or content to a human-perceivable form except where applicable law expressly permits it.
SpotiBooks makes no warranty on Spotify's behalf and disclaims implied warranties concerning the Spotify platform, service, and content, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Jan-Luca Barthel, not Spotify, is responsible for SpotiBooks. Spotify is a third-party beneficiary of this policy and may enforce the Spotify-related provisions directly.
6. Availability and enforcement
This hobby service is provided as available and may change, be interrupted, or be discontinued. Access may be limited or terminated where necessary to protect users, the service, Spotify, or applicable rights, or when these rules are violated. Questions can be sent to spotibooks@jlbarthel.de.
